Sometimes we walk the same walk but don’t stop to look closer or even – heaven forbid – step inside, when all along there is a little treasure almost on our doorstep.
Sunnisa – named after the restaurant’s owner and lovely head chef – has a pleasant modern interior which is a nice surprise. It’s bright and informal thanks to the glass fascia, although the partially frosted window prevents that goldfish bowl feeling you can get when dining on a high street.
The welcome is warm but professional and there is the option to eat in, take away or order your food to be delivered. There’s also a good wine list and, naturally, Thai beer and a range of other drinks, too.
Eating in was a good experience – those lovely Thai aromas, a relaxing environment, and a great choice of starters, soups, curries, stir fries, grilled Thai food, rice and noodles. The food is fresh, has that lovely ‘clean’ taste of Thailand and just that little bit of extra imagination. Dishes are attractively arranged on unusual shaped plates and platters, all of which adds to the overall experience.
We especially enjoyed the Citrus Beef – grilled marinated beef with Thai herbs and spicy lime dipping sauce: the lime leaves, garlic, lemongrass and mint make a fresh and tasty combination. If you’re more inclined to stick with Thai staples such as Pad Thai or Green Curry you won’t be disappointed and we thought that the Prawn Toasts were the best we’d had in a long time and certainly not run-of-the-mill.
The takeaway menu offers a 15% discount if you collect or there is free delivery when you spend £20 or more.
If you’ve previously passed this Thai by, we recommend that you stop and try!
