Monkey Music Comes to East Sheen!

Categories: East Sheen,East Sheen News,News

Our little ones will soon be able to swing along with Monkey Music, the award winning pre-school music group for children aged 3 months to 4 years, when classes begin in East Sheen on Friday 22 September!

Monkey Music, founded in 1993, nurtures a child’s natural love of music so that it will last a lifetime. Based on an exciting and progressive curriculum, Monkey Music provides weekly music classes that are entertaining and educational, and is imaginatively taught by specialist teachers who gently encourage social and musical skills within a fun, stimulating and friendly environment. How great that Monkey Music will soon be available very locally, at All Saints Church.

Classes are small and tailor-made, and the teachers make full use of the lively 30 minute classes to captivate the children using a winning combination of catchy music, percussion instruments, visual props and boundless energy, with lots of opportunities for the children to experiment with the instruments and make music of their own.

Over 300 traditional and original songs, musical games and exciting movement ideas are used throughout the curriculum, with the children grouped in small classes according to their age.

Unique to Monkey Music is their latest curriculum which was specially written for babies from 3 months in response to huge demand from parents, who are increasingly aware of the importance of introducing their children to music from as young an age as possible. Called “Rock‘n’Roll”, each class is themed around the everyday life of a very young child and is a special time in the week for parents and carers to simply stop, look at each other and enjoy the sensory experience of sound together. There are also three other classes for toddlers, 2 and 3 year olds and 3 and 4 year olds.

Rachel, who will be teaching all the lessons in East Sheen, grew up immersed in music, dance and drama. She studied the piano and clarinet, sang in choirs and attended the Royal Ballet School. She has a Drama and Dance degree, and a specialist Early Childhood Music Teaching Certificate from the British Kodály Academy. When she became a mother, she was keen to share a special musical experience with her own children. She became a Monkey Music teacher in 2011 and spent 6 happy years teaching in Barnes

“After teaching Monkey Music for over six years in Barnes, I am delighted to be bringing classes to East Sheen”, says Rachel. “It’s fun, formative and a great way of making friends!”

All East Sheen classes will take place on Friday morning at All Saints Church, East Sheen Avenue from Friday 22 September – please see below for class details.

If you’d like to find out more, or are interested in taking your little monkey along for a free complimentary class, please contact Rachel on 020 8392 8833 or email

Which class should I choose?
Rock’n’Roll – from 3 months

Designed specifically for Mums, Dads and very young babies to share together. During each class the babies and adults are engaged through gentle songs, fascinating sounds and absorbing activities. Class time: 10:30

Heigh-Ho – from 12 months

Young toddlers love being up on their feet so lots of dancing and moving encourages the children to explore the space around them and express the music they hear. The children thrive on the ‘steady beat’ and are very enthusiastic young members of the Monkey Music band. Themed classes and bold colourful props captivate the children and encourage everyone to get involved. Class times: 09:55 & 11:05

Jiggety-Jig – 2 & 3 years

By this stage, children can really express the joy that music brings them. They sing, dance, play, move, tell stories, speak, and listen to music together. Monkey Music teachers make sure that the children develop their sense of rhythm whilst playing in time to Monkey Music songs and games. Hoops, parachute games and circle dances are always popular Jiggety-Jig activities. Class time: 09:20 & 11:40
