The Reed Academy of Singing and Drama is a brand new performing arts school offering weekend training in musical theatre, 1:1 and small group singing tuition, singing examination entry and audition coaching for 7-14 year olds.
With a background in the performing arts and more recently a local teacher and music coordinator at East Sheen Primary School, Stephanie Reed founded the Reed Academy of Singing and Drama to offer children the chance to develop their musical and theatrical talents to the highest standard and to allow each pupil to embark on their own personal journey whether that be socially, emotionally or creatively.
Stephanie is an experienced actress, singer and performer holding a first class honours degree in Musical Theatre and a Professional Diploma from the London School of Musical Theatre. She also holds a Grade 8 (distinction) in singing from the London College of Music. Prior to her career as a teacher, Stephanie performed in a wide range of musicals, was a lead vocalist for various holiday companies both in Scotland and in Greece and has also run family and children’s entertainment at UK holiday parks.
I first took an interest in Musical Theatre when I saw Les Misérables at the age of 6; I was absolutely blown away! Ever since then, music, drama and dance have been at the forefront of my life and study. I am able to spot talent, nurture those who have a committed interest and I also have a strong determination to cultivate the highest levels of happiness and wellbeing.
Having fun and building confidence are the most important factors but, as a primary school teacher, I always ensure that my tuition has the maximum impact on the educational progress of all my pupils across the wider curriculum. I have seen first-hand how the performing arts has the unique ability to change lives.
1:1, small group singing tuition and audition coaching takes place at Stephanie’s home in East Sheen, where all children have the opportunity to obtain grades with the London College of Music. With 100% pass rate, all current and previous pupils have been extremely successful and obtained distinctions or merits.
The weekend theatre school explores the three disciplines in musical theatre: singing, acting and dance. Children will work towards fully staged musicals while developing their skills and of course, by having lots of fun! Guest teachers, who are currently working in the industry, will also be invited to share their professional skills and knowledge at various times throughout the year.
The school runs term time every Sunday, 3pm-5pm at the Ark Putney Academy and will be beginning rehearsals for a new musical ‘Paws and Claws’ from Sunday 10th September 2017.
