Plans to build new housing and school on South Worple Way

Categories: East Sheen,East Sheen News,News

There are plans to build houses, apartments and a new school at the Barnes Hospital site on South Worple Way. You can view the exhibition boards and submit your comments for the survey on the local NHS Trust page.

Barnes Hospital developmentAccording to the website, inpatient services have not been provided at Barnes Hospital since 2013. The site, next to Old Mortlake Burial Ground, is underused and its condition and design make it unsuitable for developing modern mental health inpatient care, says the Trust.

The Trust has been working with CPMG Architects to develop a vision for the site which could deliver new homes alongside improved healthcare facilities and provide land for a new school. The Trust will be retaining the Garden House and this will be used to continue to deliver existing services at Barnes Hospital and they are currently working with Richmond CCG to establish if other community healthcare uses could be placed on the site.

Barnes Hospital developmentThe developers plan to build a total of 76 homes, including 64 apartments and 12 terraced houses. There will also be 86 car parking spaces (30 street level and 56 basement level) for the residents, as well as 142 cycle spaces. The south of the site is not included in current plans. The Trust is currently discussing the possibility of building a new school there with the Borough.

They held a public consultation in November: if you missed it, you can view the exhibition boards and submit your comments for the survey online.

Subject to outline planning permission being granted, the developers are planning a further community consultation before submitting a more detailed application to the local planning authority.
