May Bank holiday recycling and waste collection will be one day later than usual.

Following the May Bank Holiday on Monday 3 May, Richmond Council will carry out general waste, food waste, garden waste and recycling collections for domestic properties one day later than usual, for one week.

For example, Monday collections will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday collections on Saturday, etc. There will be no change for those receiving commercial waste and recycling collection services.

Following the Bank Holiday:

  • There will be no collections for bulky waste available on Monday, 3 May
  • There will be no change for those receiving commercial waste and recycling collection services.

Normal domestic collection schedules for all waste will resume a week later on Monday 10 May.

Residents are asked to ensure their recycling and refuse is available for collection by 6am on collection day at the boundary of their property beside the entrance, i.e. where their front garden or drive meets the pavement.

To reduce issues with street litter and trip hazards, only households without front gardens, drives or equivalent are permitted to present recycling and refuse on the pavement and should only do this after 8pm on the day before collection.

The Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Townmead Road will be open over the bank holiday but pre-booking is essential. You can book a free slot here

Bike Hangars: Proposed Local Locations & Consultation https://www.eastsheenvillage.co.uk/bike-hangars-proposed-local-locations-consultation/ Mon, 05 Apr 2021 15:42:01 +0000 https://www.eastsheenvillage.co.uk/?p=33492

Richmond Council has unveiled a list of 24 residential streets across the borough that could soon have new bike hangars installed and is asking residents to have their say on the proposed locations via an online survey.

Six bike hangars have already been installed in streets across the borough. A single hangar can safely and securely store up to six bikes and is accessed by people who have signed up to the scheme, paid a membership fee and been given a key.

Please see below for the proposed locations in SW14 and feel free to complete the online survey before 30 April 2021. If you live near to the proposed locations you will receive a letter inviting you to take part in the consultation – but why wait?

The proposed new locations of interest nearby are:

  • East Sheen – Derby Road, Palmerston Road, St Leonards Road
  • Mortlake & Barnes Common – Priests Bridge, Treen Avenue

If you have any queries on the consultation or if you require a paper copy of the questionnaire, please contact  transportation@richmond.gov.uk

The closing date for responses is 30 April 2021.

He joins Talk Richmond to explain what is meant by wellbeing and how to cope with and accept stress. Jason advises that the first thing to do when feeling stressed is to acknowledge and accept those feelings. This can then lead to taking some proactive steps to deal with stress, as listed below.

Tips on dealing with stress include:

·         Talking to someone

·         Being active

·         Planning ahead

·         Challenging unhelpful thoughts

·         Splitting up big tasks

·         Allowing yourself some positivity

For more information on these tips, visit www.nhs.uk/oneyou/every-mind-matters/stress

If you are concerned about stress, anxiety or low mood, speak to your GP.  Additionally, Good Thinking is a digital, free mental wellbeing service provided by Thrive London, Public Health England and the NHS. It promotes proactive self-care for the four most common mental health conditions: anxiety, low mood, sleeping difficulties and stress. Use the clinically validated self-assessment tool to get a better understanding of what you’re going through, helpful resources and if necessary, relevant treatment options.

If you need support in a crisis, you can call the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust 24/7 Mental Health Support Line on 0800 028 8000. The Mental Health Support Line offers emotional support and advice to people who are affected by urgent mental health issues, at any time of the day or night. Help Pickle & Rye open a bigger restaurant! https://www.eastsheenvillage.co.uk/help-pickle-rye-open-a-bigger-restaurant/ Wed, 31 Mar 2021 12:01:24 +0000 https://www.eastsheenvillage.co.uk/?p=33468

NEWS FLASH: OVER £21,000 RAISED, MORE THAN DOUBLING PICKLE & RYE’S GOAL – WOW! THERE ARE STILL SOME GREAT REWARDS TO BE CLAIMED THOUGH & STILL TIME TO CONTRIBUTE!

You may have heard the fantastic news that our very own American restaurant, Pickle & Rye are moving to a new, bigger location in Sheen. They are asking for your help: they are crowdfunding to to create the best neighbourhood cafe & bar in East Sheen.

Pickle & Rye, founded by husband and wife team Alex and Val, are turning 10 this year and they have big plans for their decennial. They have signed the papers on their new premises, which are big enough for providing outdoor seating with a much wider pavement, a bar, comfy booths, and a place to watch the big game that won’t conflict with their family-friendly dining room. It’s at 180 Upper Richmond Road West, next door to much loved local deli culver + nelson.

They are asking the local community for help with the refurbishment. Co-owner Val says: “We’ve chosen to do this on our own, no investors or otherwise, because we think over the last ten years we’ve worked to create a community that extends beyond our doors. We want to see this through with the same vision that led us to create Pickle & Rye in the first place: a community-based independent spot that focuses on family, food and fun.”

In 2010 in its early days, before there was such a widespread American influence in London, Pickle & Rye was a 6 seater sandwich shop on Sheen Lane. Then in October of 2013 Pickle moved from its first brick and mortar sandwich shop location to a bigger space, just over the road. Dinner service came a few years later, picking up momentum as it went. All the while they’ve kept their mission close to our hearts; to provide locals with a warm and welcoming American experience, no gimmicks or formal attire required.

They say “We believe our food fosters a sense of family. It’s made from wholesome, real ingredients, loved and made by real people (no influencers or Instagram fads here, thankyouverymuch). Think blueberry pancakes and eggs Benedict, burgers, door wedge-sized sandwiches, seasonal pies and milkshakes.”

Please support their venture via the Crowdfunder website where they offer lots of fantastic rewards for supporters. You can choose to have a milkshake named after you, get a free coffee every month for a whole year, or even a 10-person birthday party with food, drinks and goodie bags. Did we mention there’s a T-shirt too? Of course there is.

Keep Milestone Green Traffic Free ~ Have Your Say Today! https://www.eastsheenvillage.co.uk/keep-milestone-green-traffic-free-have-your-say-now/ Mon, 29 Mar 2021 14:51:13 +0000 https://www.eastsheenvillage.co.uk/?p=33461

Do you enjoy our traffic-free Milestone Green? This little oasis in the heart of Sheen that was pedestrianised by Transport for London in May 2020 as a space in which people could safely social distance.

If you would like to keep Milestone Green traffic-free, please URGENTLY ask TfL to make the changes permanent so that we can use the little triangle outside Artisan to safely enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat in the sun (we are assuming a long, hot summer here at East Sheen Village!)

Please click here for the consultation page and scroll down to link through to the feedback form.

Thank you – your opinion counts.
