If you’re looking for a fun, friendly local choir to join, Sheen Gate Choir could be just what you’re looking for.
Formed in 2010, Sheen Gate choir is a mixed age community choir ~ some members have young children (the 30 somethings) whilst others are young at heart. It’s a very friendly, fun-loving choir with music at its heart and they work hard to make a good sound without taking themselves too seriously. That sounds like a winning formula to us!
During term time they rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 8pm – 9.30pm at Christchurch and then head to The Plough or The Victoria for drinks.
Their repertoire includes: Bach’s Magnificat, Faure’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and a whole host of contemporary works. The choir performs a major work each year, as well as other smaller concerts. They are currently rehearsing Schubert’s Mass in E flat and will give an end of year concert in June.
Those of the choir who are available will then go to Vienna to perform it at St. Stephen’s Cathedral (with other choirs from all over Europe) as part of Schubert’s 220th birthday celebrations.
If you’d like to join the fun and share your passion for singing, you’re most welcome. You don’t need to have previous experience in a choir or be able to read music perfectly, just a good ear and a love of music.
If you’d like to give Sheen Gate Choir a try, please email Patricia Joshi or simply turn up at Christ Church on a Tuesday, 8pm!
