Staying safe in a burglary hotspot

Categories: East Sheen,East Sheen News,News

Keep your house safe with police advice

According to new research, East Sheen and Mortlake are burglary hotspots in London. Comparison website Moneysupermarket’s annual research looked at more than 2 million home insurance quotes over the last two years, placing Guildford and Woking (postcode GU3) at the top of the countrywide list.

The areas in London with the most burglary insurance claims are TW11 (Teddington, Hampton and Hampton Wick), SW14 (East Sheen and Mortlake) and TW12 (Hampton, Twickenham, Feltham, Teddington, Hampton Hill).

Richmond police suggests that residents follow their 3 Step Protect advice to keep homes safe from burglary and damage. These are: protect your valuables, safeguard your building and secure your outside.

Keep your valuables in an insurance accredited or fire-rated safe and mark your property to deter burglars. Control access by securing and locking all doors and windows, keep valuables out of sight and leave a light on if you go out in the evening. Keep your garden and side gates locked and use a security light and burglar alarm. Detailed advice is on the police’s website.

You can also join your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme to help keep your area safe and request a property marking kit at a reduced rate.
